Treatment in Albania is worth it for large, planned work: several implants, a full arch, a set of crowns. It is rarely worth it for a single implant, and it is never worth it with a clinic that cannot answer a few simple questions in writing. Italian dentists have raised real concerns about dental tourism, and they deserve a straight answer rather than a sales pitch. Below: the advantages, the disadvantages, what the criticism says, and the checks that separate a careful clinic from a risky one. We are a clinic in Tirana, so read this with that in mind; every claim below can be checked.
What Italian dentists warn about
In March 2024 Il Sole 24 Ore reported the concerns of the Italian Society of Periodontology and Implantology (SIdP): about 50,000 Italians a year go to Albania for dental care, and according to the society at least one in three needs further treatment back home, often within 3–6 months. The causes they named are specific: healing times cut short, more implants placed than necessary, prostheses fitted in a hurry, and treatment planned on a single X-ray sent by phone.
These are real risks, and they are avoidable. Each one corresponds to a question you can ask any clinic before you book, listed further down.
The advantages
- Price. At Trio Dental Center a complete implant tooth (implant, abutment and crown) costs €520–600, a zirconia crown €160–200 and a fixed All-on-4 arch €3,200 per jaw, with the first flight refunded, transfers and five hotel nights for two.
- Same materials. The cost difference comes from labour, rent and taxes, not from cheaper materials: we place JD Implants (made in Italy, CE-marked) or Straumann, and crowns are zirconia or metal-ceramic made in our own laboratory. You leave with the implant documentation (brand, size, lot), so any dentist can service the implant later.
- Time. Implant treatment takes two trips: 3–5 days, then 4–6 days after 3–6 months of healing, about 7–11 days in Albania in total. Crowns are usually done in one stay.
- Tax. Italian patients can deduct 19% of the cost on the 730 tax return, exactly as for treatment in Italy, with an invoice in their name and a traceable payment. We issue the invoice in Italian. See tax deduction (730) for dental treatment in Albania.
- Language. Dr. Elian Dylgjeri speaks Italian, and an Italian-speaking coordinator handles your plan and dates.
The disadvantages
- Travel and time off. Two trips cost money and days. For a single implant, flights and days off can eat most of the saving.
- Follow-up at a distance. Between the trips and afterwards, your clinic is a flight away. Good follow-up means photos on WhatsApp, a named dentist who answers, and your home dentist able to read the documentation. If something needs treatment under warranty, you may have to travel back.
- Quality varies a lot between clinics. Albania has careful clinics and very cheap ones. The price alone tells you nothing; the answers to the checks below do.
- A dispute is harder abroad. If something goes wrong and the clinic does not respond, pursuing it from Italy is harder than with a dentist in your own town. That is why the written warranty and invoice matter before you pay.
When Albania is not worth it
- One implant and nothing else. Travel rarely pays: flights and days off can eat most of what you would save, and your local dentist can follow the healing in person. From about three implants upwards it makes sense, and clearly so for full arches.
- Complex medical cases (severe clotting disorders, conditions that may need hospital backup) are better assessed at home first. We tell you at quote stage if we think you should not come.
- If you cannot come back for the second stay within 3–6 months, implant treatment should not start.
How the risks are avoided: the criticism, point by point
| Criticism reported by Il Sole 24 Ore | What to ask | How Trio Dental Center does it |
|---|---|---|
| Planned on one X-ray sent by phone | Is a 3D CT scan taken before surgery? | CT scan in the clinic before any implant (€100, included in full-arch packages); if it changes the plan, you are told the price first and decide |
| Healing times cut short | How many trips, and how long between them? | two trips with 3–6 months of healing; fixed temporary teeth in 24–72 hours only in suitable cases |
| More implants than needed | Why this number of implants? | the plan explains the number on the scan (e.g. 4 or 6 per arch) |
| Prostheses fitted in a hurry | Is there a try-in before the final teeth? | try-in and bite adjustment on the second stay; final teeth made in our own laboratory |
| No follow-up | What happens if I have a problem at home? | WhatsApp with a photo, same-day reply; warranty work at no cost, with transfer and partner hotel organised |

Eight checks before you book any clinic
- What is the surgeon’s name and training?
- Which implant brand and model will be used?
- What does the warranty cover, for how long, and on what conditions? (Ours: 10 years on implants, 5 on crowns and bridges, 2 on fillings, in writing.)
- Is a 3D CT scan taken before surgery, and is it included?
If a clinic will not answer one of these, choose another clinic, even if it is not us. For the difference between scams and real clinics, read dentist in Albania: is it a scam?.

What it really costs: three examples from our 2026 price list
| Case | Tratamiento | Precio en Trio Dental Center |
|---|---|---|
| Un diente faltante | implant + abutment + zirconia crown | €600 (plus your own travel) |
| Four worn front teeth | four zirconia-ceramic crowns | €640 |
| A full upper jaw | All-on-4 with zirconia teeth | €3,600, first flight refunded, transfers and 5 hotel nights for two included |
For the first case, compare the €600 with your local price plus flights and days off before deciding; for the other two the difference is usually clear. The full list is on dental prices in Albania.
Preguntas frecuentes de los pacientes
Is it worth getting your teeth done in Albania?
For several implants, a full arch or a set of crowns, usually yes, if the clinic passes the eight checks above. For a single implant with no other work, usually not, because travel eats the saving.
Is it true that one in three patients needs re-treatment?
That is the estimate Italian periodontists (SIdP) gave Il Sole 24 Ore in 2024, and the causes they described are real: rushed healing, too many implants, planning on one X-ray. Choosing a clinic that takes a CT scan, respects healing time and gives a written warranty is how you avoid being in that group.
What happens if I have a problem once I’m home?
Send a photo on WhatsApp and a named dentist replies the same day. Minor issues are handled with you or your home dentist; warranty treatment costs nothing, and we organise the transfer and hotel if you need to come back.
How do I check a clinic’s reviews?
Read reviews on Google with the reviewer’s name and date, not screenshots on the clinic’s own site. Ours are on our Google Business Profile.
Next step: send a panoramic X-ray on WhatsApp (+355 69 747 4695). Within 24 hours you get a written plan with the price, the trips and the name of the dentist, and our honest view on whether travelling is worth it for your case. More on dental tourism in Albania and on choosing a dentist in Albania.
