Dental tourism means travelling abroad for dental treatment that costs much less than at home. For Italians, Albania is an hour to an hour and a half by direct flight from many cities, the clinic staff speak Italian, and the invoice is deductible in Italy.
It is worth it for larger treatments: several implants, a full arch, or a set of crowns or veneers, where the saving runs into thousands of euros. It is rarely worth it for a single implant with no other work, because flights and days off eat most of the saving and your dentist at home can follow the healing in person. The materials are the same brands you would get in Italy or the UK (JD Implants, Straumann, zirconia, E-max); what costs less in Albania is labour, rent and taxes.

Most of our international patients come for implants and full arches, crowns and veneers. The saving comes from the price of the treatment, not from cheaper materials: a complete implant tooth costs €520–600 in Tirana, and the price list shows every item. Italian patients also deduct 19% of the invoice on their tax return.

Tirana International Airport has direct flights from many Italian cities and about three hours from London. The clinic is roughly half an hour from the airport; on full-arch packages we collect you, and for other treatments the transfer comes with the partner hotel. EU and UK citizens need only an ID card or passport.
Between appointments there is time to see Tirana: the partner Primo Hotel is 1 km from Skanderbeg Square, in the centre. After implant surgery plan quiet days, soft food and no sea swimming until the dentist says so; after crowns, veneers or whitening there are no such limits.
The real risks are a clinic that disappears after you fly home, crowns on healthy teeth filed down for a quick white smile, and implants placed without a CT scan. Avoid them by asking for the surgeon’s name, the implant brand, the CT scan, a written warranty and an invoice before you book, and by choosing veneers or whitening over crowns on healthy teeth.
Implants are placed by Dr. Elian Dylgjeri (over 2,000 implants since 2013) and Dr. Julian Kokuja; crowns and final arches are designed by prosthodontist Dr. Marsida Kume and made in our laboratory.
